Whether you are concerned about ocular infection, slow progressing diseases such as glaucoma or macular degeneration, dry eye, diabetic eye conditions, or simply your overall eye health, we would like to make sure you get the best care possible.  Our doctors are experienced in managing chronic eye diseases, emergency ocular conditions, pediatric, adult, and geriatric eye care, as well as fitting standard and specialty contact lenses.

James R. Maul, O.D.
Dr. James Maul earned his undergraduate Engineering degree at The Ohio State University and then continued on to The Ohio State University College of Optometry. Graduating in 1982, he attained membership in Beta Sigma Kappa, the Optometric Honor Society.

While practicing at Firelands Eyecare Center, Dr. Maul has taken an active role in community activities. Through membership in Lions and VOSH, he continues to help facilitate much needed vision care for the underprivileged, both in Norwalk and in Nicaragua.

In addition to practicing primary eyecare, Dr. Jim has a particular interest in treating and educating patients dealing with diabetes and glaucoma. He has had two articles published in professional journals and is dedicated to bringing the latest technology and research available to his patients.

Dr. Maul is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Ohio Optometric Association, and is a past governor of the North Central Optometric Association.


Peggy H. Maul, O.D.
Dr. Peggy Maul graduated from The Ohio State College of Optometry after completing an undergraduate degree in Biology at Wittenberg University.

Practicing at Firelands Eyecare Center since 1982, Dr. Maul devotes her time to administration as well as the pediatric segment of the practice. She is particularly interested in new research on controlling myopia progression in children and works to find the best option for each individual patient. Making children feel comfortable in the office, whether it is a first exam or a contact lens exam, is a priority for Dr. Peggy.

Dr. Maul is a long standing member of the American Optometric Association as well as the Ohio Optometric Association.

With four grown children, the Drs. enjoy traveling and keeping their family close even when separated by miles.
